Miss Teen International Pageant

This past week went by so fast but was such a memorable week! The Class of 2011 girls were amazing and I will never forget any of the memories we had together (: Going to the John Hancock Observatory, the Zoo, Boys and Girls Club and the Skokie Library for the "Princess Ball" was so much fun and every time I hear 'Dynamite' I start dancing our opening number dance! Although I did not win the crown, I did earn the chance to meet new friends from all over the world! Thanks again to the Class of 2011 and God Bless you all!

CYBERBU//Y (a new ABC Family Original Movie)

200px-CyberbullyMoviePoster2.jpgOn Sunday July 17th at 8/7c, there will be an amazing movie out on ABC Family called 'CyberBully'. This movie describes and tells the story of a girls who gets her profile hacked and becomes a victim of cyber bullying. 'CyberBully' is a great movie that I would encourage everyone to watch because everyone will now see how dangerous and serious cyber bullying has become throughout the world. With technology advancing and more and more people becoming accustomed to it, cyber bullying can take place at anytime and anywhere and many young teens and adults may become victimized by cyber bullies throughout the world. I suggest that everyone should watch what they type online because once something is posted, it may never go away; my motto is: "If you can't say it in person, then don't say it at all." I am definitely going to be watching this movie and encourage all of you to watch it as well! It's on ABC Family at 8/7c and I know that it would be a very moving movie so tune in tonight to watch it!

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History

logo.jpg About two weeks ago, I got the internship for the USKAF (US Korea Art Foundation) and tomorrow is my first day working! For this foundation, the goal is to promote the Korean history and culture to those who are not familiar with it and to spread the Korean heritage to those who come visit the Smithsonian! As an intern/volunteer, my job is to give tours to visitors who would like to have a tour of specific galleries in the museum and most importantly to give them a tour of the Korea Gallery so that they can spread the knowledge of the Korean heritage to others. I will be working with this foundation for a year and will be giving tours throughout the Smithsonian several times a month! Wish me luck on my first day tomorrow and for those who are able to visit the Smithsonian in Washington DC, come down to the Korea Gallery and take a look at what the gallery has to offer!

NEW YORK CITY TRIP etc.

Here are some pictures of my trip to NYC with my family. We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Arts where we visited the Alexander McQueen gallery; this gallery showcased tons of McQueen's designs and his unique style and usage of different types of materials were breathtaking! It seemed a bit queer at first but  a lot of the dresses and outfits I saw throughout the gallery were beautiful!
Me and my younger sister, haha

My younger sister, my very supportive mother, and me! My dad took all of the pictures so he wasn't in most of them. (;

Since we weren't allowed to take pictures inside the "Alexander McQueen Gallery", these are just a couple of photos taken from the outside of the museum!

HEALTHSOUTH PHYSICAL REHABILITATION CENTER

Today was my last day volunteering at HealthSouth Physical Rehabilitation Center and have enjoyed every minute of it! For the past 3 weeks, I have learned so much about the nursing industry, therapy industry, and much more! While at HealthSouth, I was able to help out all the staff members there and interacted with all of the patients by talking to them and joking around with them. The best part of my experience there was being with the patients and just making them smile by talking to them about their life and what they plan to do when they get out of the physical rehab center. Seeing their glowing smiles and cheerful attitudes everyday put a smile on my face and lighted up my spirit! Volunteering my time at HealthSouth has made me think about studying nursing in the future and has allowed me to learn what it feels like to actually work with patients and medicine. To all of the staff members and other volunteers at HealthSouth, thanks for all you do and all of the memories I've had with you will never be forgotten! Thanks again and I will most definitely be visiting you all at HealthSouth soon!

NEW YORK CITY!!

For the Fourth of July Weekend, my family and I decided to travel to New York City where we would celebrate our Great Aunt's Birthday! Many of our family member's came from all over the east coast (New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Virginia!) We all went out and about New York City and visited the Metropolitan Museum of the Arts where we saw many beautiful artworks and collections. The one part of the museum that I really enjoyed best was the "Alexander McQueen Fashion Gallery"where I saw the most interesting and creative dresses and outfits, both men and women apparel. Most of the outfits consisted of either feathers, horse hair, or lots of beading; my favorite outfit was the "Jellyfish Dress" which I thought was absolutely stunning! The museum as a whole was amazing and I had such a great time with my family and relatives! Anyways, I hope everyone has a safe and family-fun filled Fourth of July Weekend and for those International pageant contestants, only a few weeks left until the International Pageant in CHICAGO!!

Korean War Veterans Dinner Party Presentation

Last week, I went to Tyson's Corner, VA and volunteered at the Korean War Veterans Dinner Party Presentation by telling the War Veterans about the dinner party and setting up tables with beautiful center pieces and other arrangements. I had the chance to meet and see so many Korean War Veterans and heard about some of their stories while they were in war. My grandpa, in fact, is a Korean War Veteran and was in the Korean War for about 2-3 years. Listening to my grandpa's stories and stories of other war veterans made me realize what a struggle and emotional time it really was; and so, I would just like to thank all the veterans for serving in the war and for all that they did!korean_flag1.gif

Volunteering at a Physical Rehabilitation Center (HEALTHSOUTH)

For the next three weeks, I will be volunteering monday-friday from 9am-4pm at HealthSouth Physical Rehabilitation Center in Northern Virginia. As a volunteer, my job is to help out the nurses, organize and rewrite patient's schedules and data, learn more about a patient's needs during their stay, and much more! For three weeks, I will be accomplishing 100 hours of volunteer service hours and at the same time will be learning how a nurse/doctor/staff member really does their job at the physical rehabilitation center. So far on my first day, I have learned so much about safety health information, diseases, case managing, nursing, and so much more. Throughout my journey as a volunteer at HealthSouth, I hope to accomplish and learn more about the medical facilities and to just help out the ones in need by respecting and assisting them in every and any way possible.

Honorary Goodwill Ambassador of the Korean-American Association of Virginia & Web Wise Kids

On May 16th, I visited the Korean-American Association of Virginia and met with the president of the association. I received the Honorary Goodwill Ambassador of the Korean-American Association of Virginia for my great dedication of spreading awareness of cyber bullying.

Throughout the past couple of months, I have made numerous appearances and talked about how one may be cyber smart while online. I have been fortunate enough to be able to be working with a national cyber bullying organization called Web Wise Kids, which teaches people about how to be cyber smart while using the computer by allowing them to play "realistic" games, which is a "hands-on mind-on" approach to educating the dangers of the online world. You can visit their website to read more about this gaming method at www.webwisekids.org.

Appearance at MK Gallery; Jewelry & Art Show!

Today I visited MK Gallery where there was a jewelry and art show. It was hosted by the Korean Women's International Network (KOWIN) and it was a very exciting event and there was so many beautiful pieces of jewelry and art. I got to meet some of the KOWIN members and designers of the jewelry who were all very sweet and I got to choose out a piece of jewelry for myself! At the jewelry and art show, I was able to volunteer and help the staff set up and clean up the beautiful pieces of jewelry and help rearrange and design the layout of the show. It was a very fun experience and hopefully, I will be able to do it again!

I had so much fun talking to so many people and talking about both my platform and about the Miss Teen International pageant! Everyone was so nice and supported what I had to say; I feel so blessed to have the title of Miss Teen Korea International and with this title, I am so happy to be able to spread cyber bullying awareness around my community.

SPRING!

I hope everyone's enjoying the great weather that we're having! Anyways, spring is going to be a very stressful yet exciting season for me. The national pageant in Chicago is coming up in only three months and there's so much to do with so little time! Meeting up with my pageant coach, figuring out different outfits and accessories and filling out paperwork is all part of my busy schedule as well as maintaining my 'A' average and keeping up with my sports team at school! Even with all this going on this season, I still have time for a little rest and relaxation. Hope everyone is having a great weekend and for some, a great spring break!

FIRE MARSHALL NIGHT AT WAKEFIELD SCHOOL!

At Wakefield School on Saturday, Wakefield School's girls and boys basketball team played against Highland School for the annual Fire Marshall Night where we raise money for The Plains Fire Department. This night was such a successful, amazing night and the Wakefield girl's team beat Highland School (39-37) in the last 5 seconds of the game where Emily Granruth, 10th grade student at Wakefield, made a two pointer shot at the last 5 seconds of the game. The crowd went insane and everyone was stunned. The Wakefield boys team, too, played an amazing game but did not win their game but still played great! Congrats to both Wakefield and Highland for their amazing efforts during the game and for raising money for The Plains Fire Department.

Stop Cyber bullying Day at Wakefield School

Today at school, I made an announcement about my platform, "Stop Cyber bullying" and asked everyone to participate in an anti-cyber bullying day today; I asked everyone at my school if they could write one simple, nice thing about someone whether if it its on Facebook, Formspring, Mysapce, or by a simple text message. I told everyone that i knew a kid who I went to school with who shot himself due to cyber bullying on Facebook. And then when I got home and checked my Facebook, I saw that almost everyone was participating in the "anti-cyberbullying day." It touched me so much that people will actually listen to you if you stand up for what you believe is wrong. I am so blessed to have the title as Miss Teen Korea International because with this title, I am able to spread awareness about cyber bullying to everyone. Thanks to everyone at Wakefield School in the Plains, VA who participated in the "anti-cyberbullying day" and I hope that we will all help spread awareness about the cause and affects of cyber bullying.
